The Best Painkiller I’ve Ever Had
Us humans have all kinds of pain, so we’ve invented all kinds of painkillers. Or so we think.
There are of course the chemical painkillers, so useful after surgeries and injuries. Then there are the liquid painkillers, lovely after a long day’s work. And all of the emotional and mental painkillers, stashed neatly in little apps and beeps on our phones.
We also like to use people as painkillers, often to great effect. And interestingly we can use isolation as a painkiller too, setting ourselves apart to relieve the pain of being together. As a scholar, I like to try and intellectualize my pain and do my best to think it away. Others eat, some gamble, many drink and get high. And we do it because it almost works, but not quite.
Because the true pain is often much deeper than the symptom, and there’s only one remedy I’ve found for that.
The only time in my life I’ve ever been permanently relieved of some pain was when truth was involved. It could be someone telling me a truth I didn’t want to tell myself, or me witnessing two people tell the truth to each other, or the most effective is when a whole community tells the truth to each other about themselves.
The tricky part is that truth is often a Trojan horse of pain-relief wrapped in great pain. There are a few key moments in my life when I heard the truth as it really was and at first that hurt more than the pain of the lie I was currently telling myself. But looking back, those moments of truth began a true healing that ended the pain for good.
Truth also makes no separation between the personal, the communal, and the global. I feel as relieved when I hear a personal truth about myself as when I learn of international secrets being exposed. Healing goes as deep when my coworkers and I tell the truth about an issue at work, as when racial reparations are disccussed at a national level.
Got a lie in your space that could use some truth medicine? That’s my specialty so book a Clairvoyant Counseling call and let’s clear up anything that would prolong your pain.
As a minister I’ve never seen anything more powerful or devastating than when a spiritual community tells the truth.
It’s happened three times in my life and you know exactly the truth I’m talking about. The one where a community leader sexually violates one (or many) of the congregants and and someone finally says something and is believed.
Why does this happen in spiritual communities? Because spirituality and sexuality are so deeply entangled as to be almost one and it takes astounding maturity and strength to keep the two sacred, separate, and protected. Many people do not have that strength or training, though thankfully many do.
When sexual violations happen in a congregation or spiritual community there is only one choice; to tell the truth. When people don’t the community just won’t survive. It becomes sicker and sicker over time until it eventually collapses. So why don’t people tell the truth about these kinds of things? Because at first it hurts like hell.
Some people feel betrayed, others get stuck in denial. Some become crusaders, and the victims are usually crushed altogether.
And yet if there’s any hope of healing - of addressing the real pain - the truth must be spoken no matter the percieved cost. Because the actual cost of keeping quiet is much much greater.
When communities tell the truth, the festering shadow is exposed to healing light. Relationships are seen as they really are and people can make conscious choices about whether they want to continue them or not. Those who stay in denial usually leave the community; or vice verse, those who love the truth usually leave to form their own.
Truth telling can be relieving but it’s not always simple, in other words.
And it’s something I’m keeping in the forefront of my mind as we enter the last week of the 2024 elections. No matter the outcome, I’m almost certain our culture will be awash in pain, and all of those false painkillers we’ve become so accustomed to as well.
I’m not going to tell you what the truth is, because you don’t need that. But I will tell you the qualities of truth. It’s clear like a bell. It’s totally unmistakable. When you hear the truth you may feel great pain but your spirit will feel great peace. Truth is a knowingness deep within us, connected to that part that’s eternal.
The truth needs no defending, it simply is. It always reveals something that can never again be unseen. And when you know truth, you feel its power and, above all, its love.
Truth wants us to be free and connected to each other at the same time. Truth tells us the great mystery of the Universe that we almost never want to hear; all is Spirit, all is divine, all is sacred. As am I, as are you.
The blessings of my favorite truth-telling, liberating serpent and the endless Tao of God be upon you this week.
All my love,
Cindy
New Teaching - The Foundations of Energetic Boundaries
November 14th at The Golden Rock Shop from 6:30-7:30pm
There's so much energy flowing around us all the time! We can walk into a party, a business meeting, or a public marketplace and be surrounded by other people's emotions, fears, hopes, desires, family dynamics, biases, and more.
But did you know that just because energy is active in the room, doesn't mean you have to automatically allow it into your personal space? This practical one hour class will teach you how to energetically 'own' every room you're in, how to increase awareness of other energies in the room, and how to create space for yourself while honoring and blessing others around you.
We’ll cover:
The foundations of healthy aura layers and the outer covering
Using roses for protecting, setting permissions, and dealing with energy headed your way
Becoming conscious of when others’ energy is in your space
How to set spiritual rules for the rooms you’re in
And more!
This is the perfect course if you’re headed home for the holidays and need some extra support as you navigate old family dynamics. See you there!
