Blessed are the Mothers
Blessed are the mothers and the ones who mother
Blessed are the ones who tend to every need
Blessed are the child-bearers, the parents, the first ones
Blessed are the ones who pack the school lunches, comb the hair, tie the laces
Blessed are the carpoolers and the double shifters
Blessed are the ones who help with homework, who sew halloween costumes, who make the doctors appointments
Blessed are they who stay up late worrying, who pray for protection, who listen for God’s answer
Blessed are they whose children are different, whose children are in danger simply for being who they are
Bless them, God
Blessed is Mary, whose son travelled far and spoke truth to power
Blessed is the Theotokos, mother of mothers, whose own son was killed by state-sanctioned madness too
Blessed are the mothers whose children are changing the world simply by their presence
Blessed are the truth-telling children
Blessed are the queer ones, and their parents, and their mothers, and their partners
Blessed are the ones who dance
Blessed are the ones who love freely and secretly and wildly and peacefully
Blessed are the mothers who got the phone calls Saturday night and Sunday morning
Blessed are the ones who called
Blessed are they who hold the mothers now
Blessed is their path and blessed is their grief, blessed are their cries and blessed is their love
Blessed are the Holy Ones
Amen
